FROM THE BUSINESS HOUSE OF H. KLEIN IN IDAR OBERSTEIN, GERMANY WE STARTED TO IMPORTING FROM THEM IN 1964 UNTIL 1981. THIS CAMEO IS FROM INVENTORY.
THE WHITE CAMEO IS "NOT GLUED TO THE BLACK BACKGROUND"
THIS IS A HAND CARVED CAMEO NOT LAZIER CUT. THE TOOLS FOR CUTTING ARE MADE OF STEEL AND IMPREGNATED WITH DIAMOND DUST USING A HANDHELD FLEXIBLE SHAFT RUN BY ELECTRIC. IT CAN TAKE SEVERAL DAYS TO CARVE A CAMEO. THE HEAD AND BODICE LOOK A LITTLE BLUE. IT IS WHITE. I DARKENED A LITTLE TO BRING OUT THE DETAIL OF THE CARVING.
THE STONE IS AGATE NATURAL BANDED IN BLACK AND WHITE. NOW A DAYS IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND AGATE WITH EVEN LAYERS OF COLORS TO USE FOR CARVING. THERE ARE NO CHIPS OR CRACKS.
